Here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video in January 2020

Standup comedy, gruesome murders and an inspiring family movie will make for eclectic January viewing on Amazon Prime Video.

“Broad City” ended its five-season run on Comedy Central in 2019, but co-creator Ilana Glazer is back with her first standup special — “Ilana Glazer: The Planet Is Burning” (Jan. 3) — as Amazon.com Inc.’s AMZN, +0.36% streaming service tries to challenge Netflix Inc.’s NFLX, -1.13% dominance in comedy specials. It’ll be joined by British comedian Jayde Adams’ “Serious Black Jumper,” and two more standup specials later in the month — “Catastrophe” co-star Rob Delaney’s “Jackie” and Russell Peters’ “Deported,”which was filmed in Mumbai, both dropping Jan. 17.

For viewers looking for more of a downer, there’s the docuseries “Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer” (Jan. 31), which tells the 1970s serial killer’s disturbing story from the perspective of those he hunted: women. If that’s not unsettling enough, there’s also the streaming debut of last summer’s hit horror movie, “Midsommar” (Jan. 3), a darkly comic yet nightmarish film about an idyllic Swedish village that hides a terrible secret.

A good-hearted comedy may be just the palate-cleanser your brain needs after that, and the Amazon original movie “Troop Zero” (Jan. 17) should fit the bill nicely. Viola Davis and Allison Janney star in the story of a young girl with dreams of outer space who recruits a group of misfits to form a scouting troop so she can qualify to be part of a NASA project.
